Oreo cookies are a family favourite, with over 22 varieties available in the US they have popular since their introduction over 100 years ago, but recent research shows that these sweet treats are hiding a dark secret.

Studies have found that eating and Oreo cookie has the same effect of the brain as taking cocaine.
Students at Connecticut College and their professor of neuroscience conducted a study of Oreo cookies and the reaction to our systems. When given to lab rats they produced the same reaction as when given cocaine.

“Our research supports the theory that high-fat/high-sugar foods stimulate the brain in the same way that drugs do,” said Professor Joseph Schroeder “It may explain why some people can’t resist these foods despite the fact that they know they are bad for them.”

There was found to be an “equally strong association” when given an Oreo as when given strong drugs such as cocaine and morphine. The cookies stimulated the pleasure centre in the brain in the same way, and in some results they were found to have an even greater response than the drug response.

As well as the danger of getting hooked on Oreos due to the special combination of sugar and fat that is used in the process of making them, Oreos also contain some other unsavoury ingredients.

Reduced Iron
Is the remaining product of Rust that has been de-rusted by applying an electrical current and hydrogen to the rust.

Synthetic Folic Acid
The product of the bacteria Lactobacillus Casei.

Sugar and corn sugar (High Fructose Corn Syrup)
HFCS should really be avoided at all costs. In studies, rats fed HFCS gained 300% more fat than those being fed regular sugar or sugar from fruit. It creates fat around the heart, and has been linked to brain damage in children.

Soy lecithin
A genetically modified ingredient, soy lecithin can cause breast cancer, has negative effects on fertility and reproduction, may lead to behavioral and cerebral abnormalities.

High Oleic Canola oil
One of the recent ingredients that has been modified to be high in monounsaturated fats and low in polyunsaturated fats so in order for them to have loner shelf lives, at the expense of their health value. Canola oil is a genetically engineered plant developed in Canada from the Rapeseed Plant, which is part of the mustard family of plants. Canada paid the FDA the sum of $50 million to have rape registered and recognized as “safe”.

Soybean Oil
Soy has the nighest source of phytoestrogen over any other food. Phytoestrogens are plant based estrogen that mimic the estrogen in our body. Is linked to breast cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, infertility and low libido.

-Soy is also the king of cell Goitrogens (thyroid suppressors).
-Phytlates found in soy block mineral absorption.
-Also found in Soy, Trypsin inhibitors, inhibits proper digestion of protein.
-93% of Soy is genetically modified.

Calcium Phosphate
